Born Amsterdam, Netherlands, Immigrated to Sydney Australia, now lives in Mackay, Tropical North Queensland.
Rob’s love of cartooning and art in his early years was inspired by the works of Walt Disney. Drawing and painting cartoons and selling them to stores in Ingleburn, Sydney, was his way of making pocket money.
Rob’s early working life was within the film industry with Air Programmes International, where he was an assistant camera director for a cartoon series King Arthur and the Square Knights of the Round Table.
Rob moved to Mackay in 1971 where he met and married Beryl, a music teacher and accomplished pianist. They have two sons Adam and Kent.
Rob’s love of art and cartooning was further inspired when he created his first cartoon strip ”Bart” which was first published in the Daily Mercury and later in several other newspapers. This was followed by the daily cartoon strip ”Kitty Creek”which has been published in over 20 newspapers across Australia. His second daily strip ”Burger” has also been published and is syndicated as is ”Kitty Creek” by Auspac Media.
Rob has also published four cartoon E-Books.
The ”Bart” comic strip is part of The Black and White Artist Club ( now called Australian Cartoonist Association ) collection at the State Library of New South Wales.
In 1989 Rob was awarded a prize in the Rothmans National Cartoon Awards- ”Best of 100 Cartoons”
In 1999 Rob attained a third placing in the International Cartoon Festival, Ayr, Scotland, against 80 cartoonist representing 23 countries.
Rob’s early painting style was Traditional oil on canvas, moving into a comic style in more recent years. All his characters are original and are created on canvas using oils and acrylic paint. Rob’s artworks have always shown his love of the unique colours of the Australian outback landscape.
